What’s New on the Playlist
Mar 9th
I spend a good deal of time listening to music, and trying to keep up with great new albums and bands. Here’s a little sampling of some albums I just can’t get enough of right now.
-
Mumford & Sons / Sigh No More
This rock group from London pulls you through the album with pure emotion. Mumford’s voice and lyrics really make the album.
-
We Were Promised Jetpacks / These Four Walls
I just saw this Scottish group live a couple weeks ago. I guess the theme of pure emotion billowing from the lead singer lands here too. Not to mention, the group still seems really down to earth with a great drive to play.
-
Local Natives / Gorilla Manor
I heard about this band when the lineup for the Bonnaroo Music Festival was announced. I really like the album, but it starts out much stronger than it ends. One listen to the track Airplanes and you won’t be able to say a bad word about these guys.
I WANT: Sophie Madeleine Candy Red LP
Mar 1st
I frequent Dan Stile’s website, because I’m a big fan of his work. I just happened upon an album design he did for Sophie Madeleine that stopped me in my tracks. I really like the packaging, but the candy red LP that comes with the purchase just takes it over the top. You can buy the album, if it hasn’t sold out yet, Here. Stop and listen to Sophie’s music too.
Trey NYC Show Poster
Feb 18th
Cool new poster find this week. I really like Nate Duval’s illustration style, and this is a fun new poster in what is becoming a series of cityscapes that Nate is making for various bands. It takes a close look to realize that this is New York City’s condensed skyline, but the dead giveaway, the cluster of cabs. I really like the color combo and his hand-written type for the poster is a nice added touch. I feel bad getting you all excited about this poster and then have to break the news that it’s already sold out, but if you can hunt any down, call/email/text/tweet me!
This Album will Stick with You
Feb 9th
I’m a big of good album artwork, but I’m a bigger fan of FREE STICKERS! Well maybe not to that extreme. Blockhead dropped this solid album last fall. I’d definitely recommend this to any hip hop lover. He has a great selection of samples and beats throughout. Go checkout on Ninja Tune to get your sticker fingers on all the goodies.
